A critique partner Carm recommended a book by Noah Lukeman, The First Five Pages: A Writer's Guide to Staying out of the Rejection Pile. I bought it used off EBAY for $5.00. The copyright is 2000! It is an easy read that gives concrete examples of the steps needed to avoid immediate rejection by an agent or publisher. Won't make a bad book good, but at least will increase the chances someone will spend the time to look at your presentation.
